Presentations

I created my Prezi as an introduction to our Fiber Arts Center in the Art Studio.  This is made for 2nd and 3rd graders. It explains where materials are located, what they are allowed to use in the center and some basic ideas for projects they could make in the Fiber Arts Center.

I started this Prezi at home on my iPad using one of the templates available in the app.  It was pretty easy to do, but I really wanted to do some other things like add some videos, maybe change the layout, fonts, etc. The iPad app does not allow you to do much with customizing your presentation.  I do think, however, that because it is very simple, students could easily create their own Prezi on the iPad.

When I got to work (with high speed internet) I was able to get on Prezi.com and modify my prezi from what I had done on the iPad.  I searched for some PNG images...which are great, in case you didn't know, to use for this kind of thing because it is just the image with a transparent background.  This makes your presentation look much better than if you used jpeg images, which would include a box of white around the image.  I added the PNG images and resized them.  I also added additional frames and was able to edit the path (change the order).  I copied some links to some YouTube videos I wanted to include and was able to upload those as well.  I love this feature because when it gets to the slide the video just automatically starts playing in full screen.

I think I could probably improve this.  I'm just getting used to how to use Prezi.  I would normally make these types of presentations in PowerPoint, because that is all I have known until now.  I'm excited about learning how to do something new!

As far as what students could do with the presentation apps, one idea is that they could give step by step directions for how to create something...after documenting each step with photos.  Students could also take photos of their artwork and create a presentation of just their artwork, and save it for a kind of digital portfolio.  I think I would also like to create some Prezis for the beginning of the year, rules and procedures.  I have quite a lot of Powerpoints I have made over the years which I use for lessons, but my students were way more impressed with the Prezi than Powerpoints!  :)

NOTE: if you view my Prezi on the iPad, the videos and all the stuff I added on the website are not showing up, so I'm not sure how to fix the fact that when I open the link it opens the Prezi in the app instead of online.
